Touch

Hamilton, ON

Touch is about relational activity between humans and non-humans. Through devising ways to recreate a ‘screen’ within the environment, this experimental video work raises questions about human contact with nature.
In this work the environment is a displaced other that we do not know. Through the mediation of a screen, one imagines what it is like to reach out and touch this other. Inspired by a phrase in Hélène Cixous’ poetic writings, ‘in the other we find ourselves’, through the reflection of a hand at times merges with water.
